although I believe Individual study guides are not sufficient for preparation of exams like UGC NET. I will suggest a
beginner to begin with one of these study guides. The reason why it is important to start with such guide is that it acquaints you with the syllabus and the minimum contents you should cover. after you finish these guides you get a clear understanding of what it takes to clear UGC NET. One of the best starters I would recommend is from Arihant. The only drawback of the book is the answers of MCQs given in the end of each chapter. although MCQ is well compiled there are discrepancies in the answers. so while solving these MCQs, solve it by yourself and don’t rely on the answer given in the book. the book length is sufficient enough to do the basics and after this, you can go for individual books of every subject.
PREVIOUS YEAR’S SOLVED PAPERS: it is very very important to solve previous years question papers when you kickstart preparation for any exam. Not only it gives you a better understanding of the of questions asked but also it suggests you which topics are of high weight. It is advised to solve at least previous 5 years question papers. I used this solved papers book by R. Gupta Publication.
