What is OFFICE MANAGEMENT

The increasing dependence of management on information in modern times is the reason for the growth of office functions. To satisfy this demand with skill and efficiency at a minimum cost it is necessary to provide for an effective system of office management and organisation.

The basic objective of the office is to provide clerical services to all other departments m the organisation. The office undertakes functions which involve receiving, recording, analysing, storing and communicating information, and other administrative functions.

Office activities are carried on by a group of people for a common objective, that of providing certain services efficiently. Office management is concerned with the. application of the principles and practices of management for getting office work performed by the office personnel.

Thus, it includes planning, organising, coordinating and controlling of office activities. It is the function of office management to guide the personnel employed in using appropriate means, and methods to perform office services. Thus office management may be defined as “that branch of the art and science of management which is concerned with the efficient performance of office work whenever and wherever that work is done”
